New alternatives to regular paper are constantly being developed to reduce the use of wood. At Weber Marking Systems, we already use sustainable labels made of grass, sugarcane or stone. Another invention is apple peel paper.
A new label solution: Apple peel labels

“Cartamela” translates as “apple paper”. The paper is made of waste from industrial apple processing in South Tyrol. It is 100% biodegradable and the pinnacle of sustainability. During the production process, the apple peels, which are rich in sugar and cellulose, are dried, ground and turned into eco-friendly paper.
This paper creation is as durable as conventional recycling paper and offers the same print performance. As a result, it’s ideal as a labeling paper.
Award for innovative packaging using apple peel paper

The Austrian company JOSEFUS is a small boutique company for ready-made meals that marries premium product quality with regional sourcing and a true dedication to sustainability. Sustainability considerations don’t stop with the products, they also extend to the packaging.
That is why the company tasked Design-Studio Oberhauser with designing packaging using glass, recyclable foil and apple peel paper. Oberhauser recently won the MarCom Award for innovative marketing for the packaging design.
