Weber Marking Systems’ latest innovation, the Legi-Air NoLiner, allows you to print and apply linerless labels! Among other things, this new labeling machine significantly reduces waste by removing liner from the labeling process.
What are linerless labels?
For many years, our engineers have been working to develop a label printer and dispenser for linerless labels.
Linerless labels do not have a backing paper on the side of the adhesive. This represents a major advantage: with traditional labels, baking paper is systematically discarded after the label is applied and is therefore a major source of waste.
Creating a label without backing paper is a real challenge! Indeed, its adhesive must be such that is enables the label to be peeled off the roll and, at the same time, ensure that that the label sticks to the product or packaging.
Our linerless labels are a unique and innovative way to completely rethink the labeling world. Specifically, they contain a dry adhesive on the back that is not sticky to the touch. This adhesive is then activated by a water-based solution that contains no solids and evaporates almost immediately. This process is called adhesive activation.
The Legi-Air NoLiner: A labeling machine for linerless labels
The new Legi-Air NoLiner prints and applies linerless labels. This process is possible thanks to the adhesive activation technology. Once the label is printed, it is advanced onto the labeling applicator pad. A liquid is then sprayed on to activate its adhesive. It can then be applied to the product or package.
Advantages of the Legi-Air NoLiner
The system’s first advantage is that it prevents adhesive build-up. Imagine how quickly a pair of scissors gets dirty if you cut tape all day. It’s the same problem with a labeling machine containing adhesive labels. With the Legi-Air NoLiner, there is no adhesive residue left in the print engine or dispenser, which makes maintenance very simple.
The second advantage is that it uses very little water to activate the label. As an example, a DIN-A6 label needs about 0.8 grams of water to be fully wet.
Another added value is the capacity of the NoLiner label roll. The roll capacity is almost doubled compared to adhesive labels. Indeed, NoLiner label rolls can hold twice as many labels, reducing down- and set-up time and minimizing waste.
In addition, NoLiner rolls are much less expensive than adhesive labels. This means lower preparation and disposal costs, but also lower acquisition costs.
